Around 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 30, Truman Elementary partially lost power in the building after construction workers hit a nearby power pole.

Despite the partial loss of electricity and heat, we determined that it was safe for the school day to continue with careful monitoring of building conditions to ensure that temperatures remained comfortable. We brought in portable heaters to help keep temperatures at a comfortable level. Students ate sack lunches in their classrooms. In addition, district resource officers were onsite to ensure that everyone remained safe.

Repairs are underway now to restore full power in the building, and school will continue on schedule tomorrow, Jan. 31.

We are proud of our students and staff for making the best of this unforeseen situation.
